Common Terms Explained
There are a few technical terms you might hear during the installation process. Here are the most common terms and what they mean:
Wayleave
A legal agreement between a landowner or tenant and a telecoms provider, granting permission to install and maintain network equipment on private property. We’ll need one to connect your business.
Carriageway/Footway Works
Construction activities required to lay fibre cables along roads and pavements.
Mini Civils
Minor construction work needed to install infrastructure, such as digging small trenches and managing traffic.
Street Works
Any construction or maintenance work carried out on streets, including laying fibre cables.
Backbone Works
The main network routes that connect different areas or buildings, forming the core of our fibre network.
PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access)
The process of using existing infrastructure (like ducts and poles) to lay new fibre cables, reducing the need for new construction.
